A new benchmark in dual-purpose yacht design has been launched with the departure of the first M.A.T. 11 from the shipyard. Designed by the renowned Matteo Polli Yacht Design and built by MAT Yachts, this 11-metre (36 ft) performance cruiser is engineered to dominate ORC Class C handicap racing while being fully certified for offshore passages.

The M.A.T. 11 is not merely a racer with overnight accommodations; it is a meticulously crafted machine designed to the upper limit of ORC Class C rules. Its development focused on creating a yacht that is genuinely competitive on coastal and inshore windward/leeward courses, yet remains a safe, comfortable, and capable vessel for extended cruises of up to 600 nautical miles.

A Fusion of High-Tech Construction and Performance Design

True to its mission, the M.A.T. 11 features a advanced build: a hull, deck, and interior structure of PVC foam-cored composite with vinylester glass, manufactured using vacuum-assisted resin infusion for optimal strength-to-weight ratio. The result is a stiff, light displacement of just 5,300 kg, driven by a powerful Sparcraft alloy rig (with an optional carbon fibre mast from Axxon Composites) and rod rigging.

Key performance features include:

  • Optimized Hull: Designed specifically for ORC Class C, with an optional IRC package available.

  • Efficient Steering: Choice of a responsive carbon fibre tiller or optional 900 mm composite twin wheels, working with a Jefa composite rudder and carbon fibre stock.

  • Race-Ready Deck Layout: Specified with Harken Performa black winches, transverse jib tracks, and Spinlock clutches, all laid out for efficient shorthanded sailing.

Ocean-Ready Comfort Below Decks

While the deck is a stripped-back cockpit for racing, the interior of the M.A.T. 11 offers surprising comfort for a performance yacht of this calibre. The light and airy feel is enhanced by white gelcoat finishes on the composite interior modules and hull surfaces.

MAT: "We set out to create a yacht that doesn't force an owner to choose between winning trophies and enjoying real sailing adventures. The M.A.T. 11, with its Polli-designed hull and robust, lightweight construction, achieves exactly that. It's a thoroughbred on the racecourse and a trustworthy companion for a coastal passage."

The first hull has now left the facility in Turkey.
