Yacht description
ERICSSON 1 is a great Volvo 70 Class sailing yacht to combine serious racing, racing charter, cruising and conversion project.
She is in good condition with following components renewed recently: standing rigging,
running rigging, radar, plotters, autopilot, head, batteries, charging systems, engine (just a few
hundred hours) and Saildrive transmission.
The hydraulic system has been rebuil and located in the engine compartment. The new system has an electric diven and one engine driven pump. Several of the components are new.
E1 competed in the 2005/06 Volvo Ocean Race as Ericsson Racing Team with Neal McDonald as skipper. In 2019 the current owner started a serious refit with new standing rigging, running rigging, radar, plotters, autopilot, head, batteries, charging systems, engine (just a few
hundred hours) and Saildrive.
Furter the keel system has been improved and the old well-known problem with the sliding doors of the keel dillet have been eliminated. In spring 2021 her deck has been refitted as well with several deck hardware being renewedand all deck and cockpit repainted.
Current home base is Vigo in Spain, an excellent strategic place located half way between North Europe and the Med as well as being an ideal departure and arrival place for Atlantic crossings.
Special features make her outstanding from most other Volvo 70:
She is very fast up- and downwind in all conditions and excellent in light winds in general. A race like the ARC which is a pure downwind race or the Rolex Middle Sea Race often with lots of light winds suits her well.
Recent Result:
2nd in Line Honours in the ROLEX Middle Sea Race, just 2 min. behind the all pre-crewed 'I Love Poland', the closest finish of the race ever.
