London (21st June 2021); The World Match Racing Tour, today announced the Fareast 28R keelboat has been selected and approved for the Shenzhen Bao’an Match Cup, host of the WMRT Finals in Shenzhen China, 15-19 December 2021. A new fleet of seven Fareast 28R’s will be built for the event by Shanghai based manufacturer Far East Boats, a World Sailing One-Design Class. The selection of the Simonis-Voogd designed Fareast 28R for the WMRT Finals was agreed following consultation between WMRT and the Shenzhen Bao’an District Government, host sponsor of the Shenzhen Bao’an Match Cup which will host the WMRT Finals from 2021-2025 in an agreement secured with the Tour last year. “The Fareast 28R is a popular and proven match racing boat”, commented WMRT Executive Director James Pleasance. “It is of course an advantage that the boats are built in China as this also helps to reduce any unnecessary shipping from both a cost and sustainability angle. The Fareast 28R has been used in previous WMRT events including the Monsoon Cup in Malaysia, so the teams are used to their handling and performance. We are excited to see a brand-new fleet being built for the WMRT Finals in December.” Established in 2002, Far East Boats has built over 18,000 boats to date across a comprehensive range of dinghies and keelboats, racing yachts, catamarans and rigid inflatables. The company is represented in over 50 countries and all boats are built in Far East Boats own state-of-the-art 20,000sq meter facility just outside Shanghai with a capacity to build between 30 – 40 Fareast 28Rs per month. Over 500 Fareast 28R boats have been sold to date with a growing fleet covering Asia, Europe, America, Africa and Oceania, including Korea, the Philippines, Sweden, Germany, Holland, UK, USA, Canada, Seychelles, South Africa and Australia. Constructed using an ISO polyester-foam core sandwich, the Fareast 28R is equipped with high quality hardware from industry leading suppliers including Harken, Robline, Spinlock and Selden. The new fleet of seven Fareast 28R yachts will be built around October prior to being commissioned and delivered for the event in December. The boats will have the very latest modifications following feedback from a number of professional sailors over the last few months. The inaugural Shenzhen Bao’an Match Cup will play host to the WMRT Finals from 15-19 December in Shenzhen, China.   For information on: Far East Boats, check our new built section World Match Racing Tour, visit www.wmrt.com Shenzhen Bao’an Match Cup, visit http://www.szbaoanmatchcup.com/sy

The 66th edition of the Regata dei Tre Golfi gets underway.A record fleet of over 110 boats took to the starting line off Borgo Santa Lucia in Naples for the first race of the ORC European Championship The Circolo del Remo e della Vela Italia was bustling with preparations today, Saturday 15 May, for the 7 p.m. start of the Regata dei Tre Golfi. The offshore competition represents the second stage of the Rolex Capri Sailing Week, and the 150-mile race set off on time at 7 p.m. with perfect conditions in the Gulf of Naples. The breeze of around 15 knots rotated from westerly to north-westerly and should accompany the fleet for a long upwind leg to round the island of Ponza, the northernmost summit of the Tre Golfi course. The fleet has been divided into two main groups, with the first start for boats competing in the ORC European Championship, and the second, at 7:30, for all other participants. Given the current weather picture, the fastest yachts are expected to complete the course in 20 to 24 hours, with a few favourites tasked with living up to this estimate. Among them are the maxi yacht Pendragon from the LightBay Sailing Team, owned by Carlo Alberini (with Slovenian tactician Branko Brcin), Kuka 3, the Cookson 50 owned by Franco Niggler with a highly experienced crew boasting Pietro D'Alì, Ambrogio Beccaria and Nello Pavoni to name but a few. Among those sighted on the docks, a special mention must go to the Mylius 18e35 Frà Diavolo, owned by Vincenzo Addessi and with Andrea Fornaro calling tactics. Fresh from victory at the Maxi Yacht Capri Trophy, Addessi must maintain his winning streak in order to claim the Rolex Trophy, which will go to the yacht with the best combined score from the MYCT and the Tre Golfi. A range of nations are represented in the fleet of performance yachts competing for the ORC European Championship. The boat to beat here is reigning world champion Sugar 3, the Italia Yachts 11.98 owned by Ott Kikkas, with Sandro Montefusco at the helm and a tried and tested crew including Paolo Montefusco, Maurizio Loberto, Paolo Bucciarelli and Matteo Polli, the boat's designer. The course From the start off Naples, competitors will race to Ponza before returning to round the Li Galli islets off Positano. The fleet will cross the finish line in Capri, after approximately 150 miles of racing. The fleet competing in the ORC European Championship will have until Monday 17 to complete the offshore race, making their base then in Capri for the second phase of the championship. From Tuesday 18 to Thursday 20 May, 3 days of mark racing - with a total of 6 races scheduled, including the offshore - will be held to assign the title of ORC European Champion 2021. • 0 IRC has been chosen as the rating rule to be used with the Corrected Time Records system

    0.00 of 0 votes

For decades record-setting in sailing has been dominated by adventurers, pioneers, eccentrics and, in recent years, pro-sailing teams in custom built machines. That is now set to change with the advent of a new platform that will enable any skipper and crew to use their yacht and its rating, to attempt a record course and then see their new benchmark time published. Bringing a new concept to the world of sailing, 'Corrected Time Records' enables a new category of sailing record which is launching with the IRCRecords.com platform. Attempts will be calculated and ratified using the highly popular 'International Rating Certificate' system (IRC). Whether a 100' supermaxi, standard production cruiser/racer, sports boat, high-tech racing yacht or a classic, the IRC rating rule is highly inclusive. Having a record that is based on corrected time rather than the more traditional elapsed time, allows teams to compete on a level playing field. Operated by sports management company Fourth Cape, IRCRecords™ fills a large gap in the sailing record arena. Managing Director Charles Darbyshire explains: "We've all enjoyed watching the high-profile teams going on standby then attempting & breaking the major records. We are very pleased to be launching the concept of corrected time records, which will make the skill and thrill of record breaking accessible to a much wider group of sailors, making best use of the equipment they already own or have access to. We wish IRC rated yachts the best of luck as they establish, then lower the corrected record times across our wide variety of challenging courses." Jules Verne Trophy Winner and 33 times World Speed Sailing Record holder Brian Thompson remarked "I have spent a good proportion of my sailing career on the quest to break world records and I have utterly loved the challenge of racing the clock. After all, it's the original form of sailboat racing, harking back to the tea clippers racing through the Southern Ocean, or the fishing schooners on the Grand Banks racing home to sell their catch. What is particularly wonderful about this aspect of the sport is that we need the ideal weather for a record, which means we sail in the perfect conditions to suit our boat, providing the most exhilarating and unforgettable sailing! I'm looking forward to getting my name on this new record leader board." An IRCRecords™ entry provides a "14-day attempt window" for competitors to start their attempt. This allows teams to target favourable weather and tidal conditions for their vessel. Unlike a regatta or a race start, these record attempts can be made at any stage and time to suit the competitor, giving greater flexibility to owners and sailors to take part. Benefitting from the increase in satellite tracker accuracy and reduced airtime costs, IRCRecords™ attempts will be validated through the popular and well-proven YB Tracking system, providing a device and interface which is simple and straight forward to use. Director of Rating for IRC Dr Jason Smithwick commented: "We're delighted that IRC has been chosen as the rating rule to be used with the Corrected Time Records system. The IRCRecords.com platform allows accurate calculations for the wide range of boats that have IRC certificates across the world to challenge these record attempts." "The IRC rule is used in over 40 countries for local and international, inshore and offshore events, we welcome more boat owners to apply for their certificates and to take part in this new challenge," he added. "We look forward to seeing record courses grow in both number and geographical spread. It will be interesting to see which courses emerge as the new 'classics' establishing themselves as 'the one to hold." Joining the platform from inception, leading marine electronics company B&G come onboard as a Founding Partner. Simon Conder, Head of Brand - B&G commented: "Making it easy for sailors to compete against the best on their own terms, when conditions and time suits them, has been well overdue in sailing. Many other sports already have these programmes in place, so when we started talking to the team at Fourth Cape about this, we instantly recognised the opportunity and felt we are ideally placed to help launch and grow the programme over the coming years" Other partners include; Jeanneau Yachts, Predict Wind, Foiling Tack, PlanetSail and the Royal Ocean Racing Club. Launching with courses in the northern hemisphere, IRCRecords™ will quickly ratify record courses in each major IRC region allowing club racers to establish new courses and set new records. Courses in the southern hemisphere will be opened in time for the start of the next sailing season. To compete and get on to the IRCRecords™ leader board, a current, valid IRC certificate will be required along with validation of the record attempt using data from a YB Tracker, which may be loaned from an IRCRecords™ partner, purchased at a discounted rate, or rented. On setting a new record an official IRCRecords™ certificate will be issued and access granted to purchase copy certificates for crew members, and other IRCRecords™ 'record-breaker' merchandise.
