Rolex Giraglia 2021: Notice of Race published, online registration is open   The Yacht Club Italiano, organiser of the 68th edition of the Rolex Giraglia, has published the Notice of Race and officially opened registration for this offshore classic, starting this year from Sanremo. The Rolex Giraglia will thus start on Wednesday, June 16 from Sanremo over a route of 241 miles with the first mark in French waters between Cannes and Saint Tropez and then heading for the islet of Giraglia. The finish line will be the Yacht Club Italiano in Genoa where the prize-giving will be held on Saturday, June 19. The Yacht Club Italiano and its partners feel that this unprecedented programme, with start and finish in Italy as a result of the restrictions imposed by the pandemic, will honour the tradition of the Rolex Giraglia, reinforcing the friendly relationships between Italy and France and facilitating the participation of crews from Italy and abroad. For this reason, the Société Nautique di Saint Tropez will be in charge of the approach race from Saint Tropez to Sanremo, for all the boats joining the race from France. They will also be overseeing the Rade d'Agay mark, about 15 miles from Saint Tropez, part of the new course of this year course of the regatta. The 2021 edition in fact sees two separate approach races headed to Sanremo. Two legs of about 60 miles, one starting from Genoa and one from Saint Tropez, to allow Italian and foreign crews to race to Sanremo, the official start of the race. Notice of race Link for online registration The Rolex Giraglia is back in 2021 with an unprecedented format with the start in Sanremo, with which it has a very long relationship: it was from Sanremo that the first edition of the race started on Saturday, July 12, 1953. And still speaking of tradition, before taking on its "modern" format with the Saint-Tropez week from 1998, the race has seen a succession of starting and finishing ports. From 1953, the Giraglia started from Cannes (1), from Le Lavandou (5), from Toulon (14), from Sanremo (22), from St. Tropez (25), and finished in Monaco (2), Le Lavandou (2), St. Tropez (3), Toulon (16), Genoa (18) and Sanremo (26). The news The 2021 race will see the return of the Rolex Giraglia X2, at its sixth edition and also the entry of the big MULTI 70, including Giovanni Soldini's Maserati, fresh from a season of records in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, in the front line to defend the Italian honours. The Rolex Giraglia also becomes Classic, with a special ranking for yachts built before 1985 taking part in the offshore race. To the boat classified first Overall, in the most numerous IRC and ORC/ORC Club Class (just among the Classics) the YCI Heritage challenge Trophy will be awarded. The first boat to finish in Real Time will win the Classic Trophy. The yachts The Rolex Giraglia is open to all yachts with an IRC/ORC/ORC Club certificate with an overall length of more than 9.14 m. Good news! The first major event of the sailing season will take place as scheduled between Naples and Capri, from 13th to 20th May, with an unprecedented desire to race and on a completely Covid-free island – as confirmed by the administration. ProgramMeasurement checks are set to begin in just one month, on 13th and 14th May, before the 66th Regata dei Tre Golfi sets off from the bay of Santa Lucia in Naples at the stroke of midnight on Saturday 15th May, against the backdrop of the sparkling lights of this enchanting Italian city. This year’s edition of the regatta will be valid as the offshore race in the ORC European championship. The prospect of a further postponement after the 2020 cancellation has therefore been averted; the extraordinary sight and sound of more than 140 boats moored below the Castel dell’Ovo in Naples, sounding their sirens to accompany the flag-raising ceremony in honor of the 93 teams (representing 9 nations) doing battle for the title of European Champion 2021, will remain as thrilling a spectacle as ever. The Tre Golfi regatta is open to multihull, vintage and classic boats as well as double-handed crews, and covers approximately 150 miles from Naples to Ponza, returning to round the Li Galli rocks off Positano, before crossing the finish line in Capri. The fleet will then remain in Capri for the second phase of the European Championship, with three days of coastal racing taking place from Tuesday 18th to Thursday 20th May. A total of six races are scheduled, including the offshore race.“We are very impressed with the responsible manner in which the organizers have coordinated this important championship during these challenging times. With 93 entries, this is the most popular ORC Europeans in the event’s 18-year history. I think this is indicative of everyone’s great desire to get back to competitive sailing” commented Bruno Finzi, President of the Offshore Racing Congress. A safe islandAlongside the stringent safety protocols put in place by the organizers, the administration of the island of Capri has implemented a rigorous program to safely welcome all participants in the event, which will inaugurate the tourist season in this difficult year. “By the first week of May the entire island will be Covid-free,” declared Marino Lembo, Mayor of Capri “for the week of the Rolex Capri Sailing Week we will create a ‘secure bubble’ around the marina, which will cover the entire Marina Grande area. In addition, thanks to an agreement with the association of hoteliers, all accommodation facilities have implemented a strict safety protocol providing the utmost healthcare assistance.” CommunicationTo optimize communication and limit contact between the organizers and skippers, the RCSW will become a paperless regatta. All registrations and communications will take place exclusively via the event website, where participants can use a live chat to contact the organizers.A weekly newsletter will provide all relevant updates, including those related to the Covid safety protocol. www.rolexcaprisailingweek.com The new GS44 Essentia44 is participating, follow the race via racingyachts INSTA account!

Code Yachts Shipyard on the Code 10 Why built in carbon?  Compared to fiberglass, it's lighter, stiffer, stronger and provides a smoother ride. We aimed for a trailerable boat so that our customers have the freedom to set sail wherever they want. The total displacement of CODE10 is 1900kg (4189 lbs), from which the ballast weights 960kg (2116 lbs).We used Carbon-Airex® foam-Araldite® Epoxy sandwich for the hull, deck, and liner with vacuum infusion technology and covered it with Durepox paintings. We kept her thick but slim. "It is not prepreg/honeycomb because the product must be marketable and not overpriced."Other advantages of  a carbon boat* Carbon has excellent lifespan and is extremely strong and rigid.* Light boats are easier to handle because of reduced loads, and therefore are safer.* Light yachts are environmentally friendly, they reduce fuel consumption yet increase the range. What else can we tell about the CODE10?She is 10m (33ft.) long and comes with a removable bowsprit (this helps when you transport her with your car). The beam is slightly less than 3.00m (2.98m), which allows the owner to drive it with a regular trailer. Any regular car with the capability of towing 3500kg is perfect for moving the CODE10 wherever you want.    CODE 10: the perfect daysailer! it has space for a sailing crew of 4-6 persons with a maximum crew weight of 600 kgs. Spars come from Pauger carbon. All code10 are built with excellent precision and outstanding durability in order to deliver maximum performance and safety

  • 0 2021 ORC Rules Now Published

    5.00 of 1 votes

The Offshore Racing Congress (ORC) announces the 2021 version of the VPP and Rules are now published and ready for use. The rule books are uploaded and available for viewing and download at www.orc.org/rules and the VPP software has been delivered to ORC’s national Rating Offices around the world for them to issue certificates when ready for their regions. The specific changes to the Rules from 2020 are summarized on the ORC website at this link: www.orc.org/changes. The 2021 editions of the ORC VPP Documentation and the ORC Race Management Guidebook will be updated and available within the next several weeks. While there were very few changes to the VPP and rules for 2021, there have been substantial improvements made to the main product of ORC: the ORC certificate. The new designs for ORC Club and ORC International certificates will now offer the information on a boat’s measurements and rating options in a way that is both complete and easier to read. Firstly, both certificate types are now color-coded: light Blue for ORC Club and dark Blue for ORC International, which is shown on all pages. The type of certificate – General, Double Handed, One Design or the new Non-Spinnaker – will also be prominently shown on the first page. The first page of all types is the same, with the boat’s name, sail number, General Purpose Handicap (GPH) and Class Division Length (CDL) shown within the colored label field, along with a scale drawing of the boat, the rig and sails, basic boat dimensions and a table of rated boat speed values for various wind speeds and angles. The second page is also the same now for all certificate types and is dedicated to the multiple scoring options available for use in the ORC system. Time allowances in the basic options – All Purpose and Windward/Leeward – are shown on the top half of the page, while the bottom half may show a variety of more options depending on the preferences within the region of each rating office. These include popular options such as Triple Number, Predominant Upwind and Downwind, and race-specific models. The third page has more detailed information on the boat, hull, appendages, rig, flotation and stability data, and the measurement inventory of items aboard when measured. ORCi certificates automatically display this data that is provided by measurers, while this page is optionally displayed on ORC Club certificates since the data may be assumed and is at the discretion of the national rating office. A fourth page is also part of all ORCi certificates and contains detailed measurements of all sails of all types declared on the certificate and used to calculate ratings. There have been no changes made to 2021 ORC Superyacht certificate designs. Another innovation for 2021 is the ability for rating officers to issue not only standard and Double Handed ORC Club and ORCi certificates to co-exist for the same boat at the same time, but the addition of the new Non-Spinnaker certificate as well. Since the Scoring page is now standard on all certificate types, the same scoring options are now available whether racing with a full crew, Double Handed or Non-Spinnaker. This gives even greater flexible use of ORC ratings and scoring to serve the needs of sailors without requiring the intervention of the rating office. As new certificates get issued by rating offices, they will be uploaded to ORC’s free web-based public-access portal, the ORC Sailor Services. Here copies of current and past certificates going back to 2009 are available for free, along with many 100’s of measurement records from the earlier IMS era. Self-service test certificates may be run here, as well as Speed Guides of polar performance and upwind and downwind Target Speeds for windward/leeward racing. “Our Management Committee is pleased with the staff working so hard in the last few months since the Annual Meeting to complete this ambitious project, among all their other tasks,” said Bruno Finzi, Chairman of ORC. “We feel race managers and our customers will appreciate this effort to make the ORC system easier to access and understand, particularly among our many new users this year.”     About ORC: For over 50 years ORC has managed and developed the IOR, IMS and now ORC rating systems used in inshore and offshore races, and for the past 20 years has organized annual World and European championship events, as well as hundreds of local and regional races and regattas in 45 countries around the world. It is the largest World Sailing-recognized measurement-based handicap system in world, issuing >10,000 certificates per year. www.orc.org

IRC was developed and managed for the past 33 years by the Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC) and its French counterpart, Union Nationale pour la Course au Large (UNCL), and is used in over 40 countries for local club regattas, continental championships and many of the world's premier ocean races.
